My familyWhy I Researched Maternity & Paternity Policies

When my wife was pregnant with our first kid, she was the Editor in Chief at a marketing agency. She managed a big team of writers. It was an important job.

The problem was that the company offered three days of maternity leave – essentially a long weekend. They wanted the partial benefits provided by the state to cover the rest. I had six weeks of paternity leave at my company.

  • My wife decided to leave the company and start her own writing and editing business.
  • I stayed at my company for another five years.

There’s a lesson there – If you want to retain good employees, invest in them having families.
