On February 7, 2025, Giant Eagle replaced its public-facing DEI page with a new inclusion-only page, eliminating all mentions of “diversity” and “equity” in the process.

What Changed

  • New Page: The current page, launched on February 7 according to The Wayback Machine, is titled simply “Inclusion” and presents a more general message about belonging, framed in terms of business culture and engagement.
  • Redirect: Visitors to the original page(/about-us/inclusion-diversity) are now automatically redirected to the new page (/about-us/inclusion).
  • Archived Proof: The transition is documented via the Wayback Machine snapshot from March 2023 and February 2025.

 

Giant Eagle’s New Stance On DEI

Giant Eagle’s quiet change removes much of the public narrative about its DEI program.

  • The original page used the word “diversity” nine times.
  • The new version uses the word zero times.
  • Mentions of “equity” have also been fully removed.

The original DEI page:

  • Was signed by CEO Laura Karet
  • Defined inclusion, equity, and diversity explicitly
  • Highlighted programs like supplier diversity, anti-racism initiatives, commemorative events, and community partnerships

The new inclusion page:

  • Drops all references to equity and diversity
  • Presents inclusion as a cultural and innovation strategy
  • Uses general language about belonging without naming specific programs or commitments

 

Broader Context

Giant Eagle is the latest company to quietly reduce or remove DEI webpages, following similar moves by Best Buy, Aldi, and Walgreens in the past year.

While no official statement has been made, the shift in tone and content reflects a broader corporate trend: moving away from detailed DEI commitments toward more generalized messaging around inclusion and business alignment.
