Two-Person Desks: 12 Double Desks To Buy & 1 To Avoid
If you feel like you’re starting a desk collection, this article is for you.
I’ve shared a home office with my wife for over five years.
No one wants to feel like they’re working in an office furniture store, so instead of cramming two offices into one, we’ve focused on making the space productive for both of us.
Right now, our search has led us to two-person desks (or, double desks). We’re hoping to find a desk that lets us reduce the amount of furniture in the room without reducing our productivity.
If you share a home office with your partner or roommate, you’re probably in the same boat. That’s why I decided to create this post, to help people find a double desk for their situation. Keep reading for a list of double desk winners, plus one you should keep out of your online shopping cart.

The Worst Double Desk (Don’t Buy This)
It’s just like Mama said: “If something looks too good to be true, it probably is.” We were excited when we saw this desk because there aren’t many double-sided desks on the market. But we quickly discovered that buyers were less than enthused with their purchase. If you’re looking for a double desk that is sturdy and long-lasting, steer clear of this one:

If you really don’t believe us, here is why we recommend avoiding this double desk:
- JGUSVYT Two-Person Desk With Partition: This two-sided double desk looks like a steal, but don’t be fooled. This desk gets six reviews and ratings on Amazon, and none of them are good. Buyers say beware – the desk is cheap and not worth the money. Buyers say the desk does not even have the wire management and USB port features that the seller promises.
The Winning Double Desks For Your Home Office
These double desks are the best of the best: functional and affordable. Take a look at the categories below to find a desk that you and your partner can use to get work done together.
Note: One feature we took into consideration for these choices was desk depth (so you can use an external monitor). The minimum suggested depth for a desk using monitors is around 24 inches, so any desks in the list that are 23.6 inches deep and over are marked with “Room For Monitor.” You can still try to use a monitor with shallower desk options, but we thought the differentiation might be helpful.

What is a double-sided desk?
A double-sided desk is a desk for two people where the two workers face each other. This usually results in a desk design that looks like two desks pushed back-to-back (a square shape). For company offices, these desks sometimes have partitions between them to provide privacy.
What size should my double desk be?
When buying a double desk, you’ll want to find the balance between having enough elbow room and being able to fit the desk in your home office.
One-person desks are generally 40 to 60 inches long. Multiply this by two, and you have a minimum length of 80 inches for your double desk. However, some double desks are slightly under this size (usually around 78 inches). These desks still offer enough space for you and your partner to spread out, but they fit better in small spaces. If you have enough space, you can always opt for a longer desk. Double desks can range from 69 to 109 inches, with 95 inches set as a popular length.
As far as depth is concerned, you’ll want to think about how you’ll use the desk. Some double desks are shallow (around 19 inches) to fit better in small offices, but this often makes it hard to use external computer monitors. This article from WFHOverload talks about the depths you’ll want for different monitor sizes. The minimum depth they recommend is 24 inches, with 28 inches providing some wiggle room. We used 24 inches as our standard for which desks in this list will fit external monitors.
Can two people use an L-shaped desk?
The short answer: we wouldn’t recommend using a single, L-shaped desk for two people. If you think about the layout of an L-shaped desk, two chairs would have to be placed at a 90-degree angle to each other. This means you’d have to be careful not to back up or try to leave the desk while your partner is working. It’s a collision zone. But using two L-shaped desks back-to-back is a brilliant way to create your own double desk setup. It will mimic the classic T-shaped double desk design while providing versatility if you ever need to separate the desks.
Recommend a double desk
After 10+ years of remote work, I’ve tried a lot of home office desks, and the winners above represent the features I think most remote workers will find appealing in a two-person desk. Still, I might have missed some good options. Let me know if I did – I’ll be happy to check out your recommendation.
