9 Best Small Desks For Bedrooms (+2 Worst To Avoid)
You’re on a mission to find a small desk for your bedroom. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, but it better…
- Fit in a small space (I call a “small desk” 35 inches wide or fewer)
- Not cost an arm and a leg
- Help you stop taking Zoom calls from your dresser (what you’ve been calling your “standup desk”)
After all, this bedroom/office is a temporary phase. You’ve got your sights set on a proper home office in a few years and need a small bedroom desk until then.
- If you’re in a hurry, this is the one I bought that you must avoid! Don’t buy the Winsome wood desk. It’s an Amazon top choice, it’s highly rated… but it fell apart on me in less than a year. Make sure to avoid the Dekhaoxe Mobile Desk, too. It is poorly rated (3.5 stars), has a toxic amount of 1-star reviews (24%), frequently comes with missing parts, and falls apart quickly.
- This is the best overall small desk for a bedroom: CubiCubi 32-Inch Computer Desk for $69. It is affordable, highly rated (4.7 stars), has 40,000+ reviews, relatively simple to assemble (4.5 stars), includes some storage, and sturdy (4.4 stars) yet lightweight (21 pounds).
I’ve worked from home for a decade. I’ve burned through four desks. And on three separate apartments, I’ve worked from my bedroom. I’ve gone through all of the research to get the right desk for a bedroom so you don’t have to. Let’s jump to the category winners.

How we define a small bedroom desk
A desk with a width of 35 inches and under is considered a small desk you could use for a bedroom. “Small” is subjective, so I wanted to put some parameters on it.
How we define the bedroom desk types
We figured most people could have guessed how we defined each type of desk, but if you’ve made it this far and you’re still curious, here you go:
- Executive: It looks important. It’s probably wood, heavy, and has lots of drawers.
- Floating: It mounts to a wall. It doesn’t have legs.
- Folding: It can be broken down and put away into a smaller space.
- Hutch: These desks are tall with drawers or shelving above the desktop.
- Corner: The is designed to fit in the corner of a room facing out equally from both walls.
- L-Shaped: It turns. It looks like the letter L.
- Minimalist: This is sort of a catch-all for all others. If it doesn’t fit the other categories, it’s simple.
- Sit-Stand: This is an adjustable-height desk that you can sit or stand at.
We have a complete list of desk types and styles here.
The most recommended small desk brands
You’ve made it through my monster breakdown of small desks for bedrooms. But maybe none of my category winners quite fits what you are looking for. If so, I can help point you in a new direction for your research.
These are the most recommended small desk brands you can trust. When I asked my list of contributors for the desks they have, these came up over and over. When I researched every small bedroom desk for reviews, these brands had high marks there as well.
How to select the right desk for a bedroom
If you’ve made it all the way down here, I’m sorry to admit that my guide failed. One of the best bedroom desks we covered in detail above didn’t do it for you. As you continue your research, here are some guiding principles for selecting the right small desk:
- If you plan to go cheap (under $100), get a simple desk. The more bells and whistles (drawers, wheels, keyboard tray, collapsible, etc.) the more likely something will break quickly. At $55, the SHW 32-inch desk checks all the boxes.
- Don’t buy a desk with wheels. Wheels don’t work on carpet and they break easily. Get a folding desk instead. The GreenForest folding desk is your best option.
- Get some storage so you can put your work away. You don’t need to have storage as part of your desk, but if you want it all-in-one, go with the Ikea Micke. It’s drawer closes completely and fits any laptop.

How to manage your bedroom & home office combo
When you have your desk in the bedroom, you run the risk of your work ruining your rest and your rest ruining your work. Take a look at our in-depth guide with 41 bedroom office ideas (and real photos) or our article, “How To Set Up A Home Office In A Bedroom,” to get some tips to manage the situation. If you’re in a hurry, here are the six most important tips, in my experience:
- Create a physical divide between your desk area and your bed area (a room divider would help)
- Take a window for your desk for some natural light
- Put your work equipment away at the end of the day
- Get flexible, foldable furniture (that could be a folding desk or a Murphy bed with a desk)
- Hide your bed on video calls (with a home office backdrop or office room divider, etc)
- Become a minimalist (you already have your desk and your bed in one room, get rid of everything else that clutters)
