Target’s Return To Office Policy: 5 Weeks Per Year
Target employees at the company’s downtown Minneapolis headquarters are expected to work from the office at least five weeks per year, according to a new report from FOX 9. The policy reflects an incremental increase from the previous requirement of one week per quarter, which was implemented in January 2024.
However, Target’s corporate policy does not mandate office attendance across the board. Instead, group leaders can set specific in-person expectations for their teams (likely above the five-week/year minimum).
“Team members tell us they see the benefit from the in-person connection and collaboration that’s a part of being in the office,” a Target spokesperson said. “At this point, individual leaders are empowered to make decisions for their teams based on company guidance as well as what’s best for the role they play in our business”.

Target, which employs over 7,000 workers at its downtown headquarters, remains one of the largest employers in the city. The retailer has not disclosed which groups are affected by stricter attendance expectations or whether the change is permanent.
Among the Fortune 500, Target is one of just a handful of companies that have built their RTO policies around weeks per quarter or year (as opposed to days per week).
- In fact, Target is the only Fortune 500 company with a policy of five weeks/quarter in the office
- Ulta Beauty and J.M. Smucker require one week per quarter
- Airbnb requires one week per month
At the time of writing, those are the only four companies that have set policies outside of the days/week format.
