Accenture Walks Back Its ‘Unwavering’ DEI Commitment
In its annual report released on October 10, 2024, Accenture wrote, “We have an unwavering commitment to inclusion and diversity.”
Less than four months later, Accenture CEO Julie Sweet said in a memo to employees that the company has canceled four DEI-related goals and programs.

June 14, 2017: Accenture sent a press release stating its new target that will “achieve a gender-balanced workforce, with 50 percent women and 50 percent men, by 2025.”
November 15, 2022: Accenture published its first 360 Value Report with specific hiring quotas for women and certain races:
October 10, 2024: In its Fiscal 2024 Annual Report the company wrote, “We have an unwavering commitment to inclusion and diversity.”
December 13, 2024: Accenture released its 2024 “Environmental and Inclusion & Diversity Metrics” report with DEI metrics, goals, and commitments.
January 24, 2025: Accenture received a perfect 100 score by “The Human Rights Campaign” for being a leader in “LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion.”
February 6, 2025: Accenture changed the title of its DEI-focused webpage from “Our commitment to inclusion & diversity” to “Everyone is welcome here.”
February 7, 2025: CEO Julie Sweet said in a memo to employees that it is ending multiple DEI programs and goals:
- Diversity goals that were established in 2017
- DEI targets as a way to assess staff performance
- Career development programs “for people of specific demographic groups
- Submissions to external diversity benchmarking surveys
