Broader DEI Trend

Ogilvy’s decision to dismantle its global DEI team is part of a growing trend within the advertising industry, where large holding companies are quietly stepping back from centralized diversity functions.

In recent months, competitors including Publicis Groupe, Omnicom Group, and Interpublic Group have also made cuts or reorganized their DEI teams, citing cost pressures and a broader shift in priorities.

WPP, Ogilvy’s parent company, signaled a similar change in direction earlier this year when it removed explicit references to diversity, equity, and inclusion from its annual report.

Summary

Ogilvy’s elimination of its centralized DEI team marks a major departure from its previously vocal DEI efforts. While local DEI activities may continue, centralized strategy and senior leadership commitment have been dismantled.
