AT&T Mandates 5-Day RTO Starting In January 2025

|

This post was originally written on November 4, 2024. It was updated on November 5, 2024 after an email from an AT&T employee.

Rumors have started circling on forums this week.

AT&T most likely started calling executives to return to the office for five days per week. It’s unclear whether that has already taken effect or will take effect on January 2, 2025.

I have received two anonymous tips from people who claim to work at AT&T. I reached out to three people additional HR executives at AT&T, but have not heard back at the time of writing this. I will update this article as soon as I get a statement from AT&T. Although the rumors haven’t been confirmed by anyone at AT&T yet, here’s what I know so far.

AT&T’s New Return To Office Policy

Here’s the policy change that likely occurred:

  • Send date: Some communication was likely issued in late October 2024
  • New policy: Five days per week
  • Other clauses:
    • It potentially applies to people just in Dallas and Atlanta (unconfirmed)
    • It potentially applies to just executives for now
  • Start date: January 2, 2025

Anonymous tip

I received a message from an anonymous person saying the following:

You can research and add in AT&T now too; as they just announced today to their employees (10-29-24) that instead of three days per week (which they just recently upped from one day per week for many teams) that they expect five days per week beginning Jan. 2, 2025.

Multiple threads appear on TheLayoff.com

One thread appeared on October 23, October 24November 5

There are multiple comments from people saying that they received a memo or were told by a manager about the new RTO policy.

My Conclusion

This matches with the pattern for other internal policy changes that don’t get released to the public.

AT&T changed their three-day/week policy to a five-day policy in late October (most likely for just executives) with enforcement starting in January of 2025.
