Best Home Office Desks: The Sortable List (2022)
I’m on my fourth desk in eight years of working from home. I went cheap when I was younger and the desk didn’t hold up. I went foldable when my wife and I lived in a small apartment, but the folding part broke. Finally, I invested in a FlexiSpot Q8 standing desk. It’s pricey, but awesome (and worth it).
Four rounds of home office desk research made me realize why it’s so hard to find the right fit.
- There are over 10,000 options on Amazon when you type in “desks” (not an exaggeration)
- Then, you have blog posts with the top “10” desks… but they don’t know your needs, space, or preferences
There’s no good, in-between tool for finding a desk. This page is the solution.
It’s the top 58 home office desks across the internet. Why 58? I have a list of 500+ remote work experts who I occasionally ask simple questions like, “What desk do you have in your home office, and what do you like about it?” This post includes the chosen desk from everyone on that list and their personal take on the desk.
The 5 best desks
If you’re hoping to quickly find a great desk for you, here are the top five in the list. These are the two we have in our home office plus the most recommended from my list of remote work experts.
Desk | Type | Price |
$800 | ||
Standing | $800 | |

FlexiSpot Comhar Pro Q8 Standing Desk
Here’s an excerpt from my FlexiSpot Q8 standing desk review, which is ranked as the best standing desk with drawers:
“The FlexiSpot Comhar Pro Standing Desk is the coolest, highest quality standing desk I’ve seen. It is sturdy and well built, has a beautiful bamboo finish, and comes with all the geeky bells and whistles – height pre-sets, wireless charger, embedded drawer, and USB ports.
I dreaded the assembly (since I’m bad at that stuff), but it turned out to be easy and quick (under 30 minutes).”

“It’s a converter. I really like that I can place it on a traditional desk or a table. One thing I don’t like is a small space on a converter itself, but I can place things on a desk under it.” Thank you to Dima Suponau of NumberForLivePerson for sharing this home office desk.

Autonomous Smart Desk 2
“Due to COVID-19, my partner and I both have standing desks. I had been working from home before COVID and had purchased a MotionGrey standing desk and we recently purchased an autonomous smartdesk 2. Despite saving a few hundred dollars on the Autonomous we noticed a number of negatives with it vs. the MotionGrey. 1) At it’s maximum height it’s EXTREMELY unstable and things can easily fall off. 2) The frame shakes as the height increases. 3) The material despite looking good seems cheap. Despite having awesome marketing, I advise people not to buy the autonomous desks. If you plan on buying a desk spend the money to get something that’s durable and tough.” Thank you to William C of PickFu for sharing this home office desk.
“It’s very reasonably priced compared to a lot of the other electric-powered standing desks on the market. I love that it’s very sturdy and does not wobble much if at all when standing. It goes up and down smoothly and quickly, and it has a great modern look to it. There are also a lot of accessories you can purchase with it as well. Oh, and did I mention the shipping is free? The only downside is that it is quite heavy and therefore difficult to move. It can also take some time to assemble, but it really was not too bad. I have no regrets on my purchase.” Thank you to Susan Miller of Community Tax for sharing this home office desk.
“The desk is all white with two holes for cables on the left and right. It’s medium is size and I love how it automatically raises and lowers to my preset height. Other desks force you to hold the button, that’s not the case with the Autonomous.” Thank you to Kyle Vamvouris of Vouris for sharing this home office desk.
“This desk is the perfect size for me – measuring 53 inches wide, there is enough room for a computer and work books. The memory settings for raising and lowering the desk make transitioning from standing to sitting painless and quick. The desk was easy to assemble – and take apart in the event that you need to move it.” Thank you to Marshal Simons of Impakt Digital for sharing this home office desk.

Bright Stone Standing Desk Converter
“I use a standing desk I got from Amazon. After doing Crossfit for over 15 years I have done too many deadlifts and one day playing soccer with my kids I fell down and I could not get up due to lower back severe pain. Ambulance had to come pick me up. After a few weeks of recovery, my physiotherapy guy told me that due to me sitting most of the day, and then doing intense exercise like Crossfit, my back can not adapt to changes like that and that is why it snapped. He said I have to make sure I stretch and get a standing desk. Thank you to Alex Kovalenko of Kovasys IT Recruiters for sharing this home office desk.

SHW L-Shaped Home Office Wood Desk
“I’m a real estate photographer, so I’m constantly sitting at my desk and editing on my computer. I love the L Shaped model because it allows for my mouse-using arm to be supported for long editing sessions. It also has plenty of leg room, multiple cut outs for perfect cord management, and shelving for documents. It’s large enough to fit everything I need for a home office, and fits perfectly into the corner of any room. On top of all that, it’s quite affordable and very easy to assemble. I’ve even moved a few times and the ease of assembly was extremely helpful. UPLIFT v2 Standing Desk
⭐ Most recommended (6 times)!
“The looks & build quality are top notch. I love that it allows me to sit or stand during the day. For someone that is at their computer from the time they wake up to time they go to bed this makes for a much more comfortable day.” Thank you to Rodney Warner of Connective Web Design for sharing this desk.
“I received the Uplift standing desk as a gift and it has been incredible. I love the monitor arm attachments (easily hold two 27″ IPS monitors) and I can go from sitting to standing in one button touch. I have bamboo with a slight curve and it’s beautiful!” Thank you to Matt Lally of TheGiftYak for sharing this home office desk.
“This office desk is made of high-quality materials and is very stable, unlike some standing desks that can move slightly when fully extended to their highest heights.A motorized desktop is very smooth and quiet. There are many different options for how big the desktop should be, and you get some cable management skills as well. All of this is backed by a seven-year guarantee, and the Uplift V2 can be customized with a lot of different accessories.” Thank you to Steven Walker of Spyfix for sharing this home office desk.
“My Uplift desk has been a significant addition to my home as I began work from home in early 2020. I have the six-foot standing desk with one touch height adjustment. IKEA Linnmon & Alex Drawers
“I’ve got the stained oak top option. There is something smooth and pleasing about it. There’s a simple elgance about it that I find gives me a little bit of pleasure every time I sit down at it. In fact, it’s the minimal simplicity of it that gives it it’s charm really. The Linnmon desk I got has simple wooden legs (optional) on one side and is supported by a small chest of draws (“Alex”) that is made to be just the right side for the table top which holds up the other side. The table top gives me enough room for a couple of laptop computers, a light and a couple of bits and bobs. Sanodesk E7 by Flexispot
“The first thing that I really like about the Flexispot range is that you can purchase just the frame if you fancy a different worktop which is what I did, opting for an IKEA kitchen worktop to give me more work space. As a standing desk, it is heavy but very stable and is considerably quiet. The coolest feature is the control panel, allowing you to set pre-defined heights for sitting and standing, as well as manual adjustments where necessary.” Thank you to Ryan Scollon of Ryan Scollon & Co for sharing this home office desk.

EC1 Standing Desk by Flexispot
“When I work from home I like to have a standing desk since it allows me to be more productive. The Flexispot EC1 Standing Desk comes in multiple sizes and colors, depending on your needs and preferences. It’s available on Amazon for an affordable price with free shipping included.” Thank you to Jesse Richardson of The Brother’s Apothecary for sharing this home office desk.
“I’ve had other standing desks before that just attached to the top of a normal desk and rise from there. Compared to that, I prefer this model, with its own motor that controls the height of the tabletop down to the millimeter, so there’s less fiddling with initial setup and you can customize the desk height to whatever task you’re doing or whoever is at the desk. I’ve used different heights for different chairs (and the yoga exercise ball) and my husband can jump in and set it to his height whenever he’s using it, so it’s been great.” Thank you to Jessica Lalau of PostcardMania for sharing this home office desk.

How we define the desk types
Below, you’ll find definitions for the most common types of desks. If you’d like to learn more, read our guide covering all styles and types of desks. Here are some simple definitions for the ones you see appear in this article:
- Executive: It looks important. It’s probably wood, heavy, and has lots of drawers.
- Floating: It mounts to a wall. It doesn’t have legs.
- Folding: It can be broken down and put away into a smaller space.
- Hutch: These desks are tall with drawers or shelving above the desktop.
- L-Shaped: It turns. It looks like the letter L.
- Simple: This is sort of a catch-all for all others. If it doesn’t fit the other categories, it’s simple.
- Small Space: These are designed for small spaces, so they are have less width and depth.
- Standing (Adjustable): This is an adjustable-height desk that you can sit or stand at.
- Standing Converter: This is not a desk actually! It’s just a piece that sits on top of a desk that makes it adjustable/standing.
- Gaming: This has been built for people that play video games. I hope you aren’t reading this blog.

FAQs about picking the right home office desks
How do you find a good desk?
- Start with the size of your space and filter out all desks that don’t meet the criteria.
- Next, determine the type of desk you like (standing, corner, simple).
- After that, decide if you’d like storage or not.
- Finally, set a budget and filter out all that don’t fit.
How much does a good desk cost?
This list alone has desks from $49 to $2,000. You can find quality desks under $100 like the YJHome’s folding desk, Furinno computer desk, or the MICKE by Ikea. A good rule of thumb is that if you go simple, you can go cheap. If you want the bells and whistles (electric sit/stand, drawers, shelves) make sure you invest more. The more features, the more chance something could go wrong with cheaper desks.
How do I choose a desk size?
There are two questions to answer to choose the right desk size: 1) Where will the desk go in your home or office?, and 2) What will you put on the desk? First, measure the area you want the desk to go and set upper limits for width and length. Then, make sure you understand what will be on your desk consistently. For example, some smaller desks cannot handle two monitors.
What company makes the best desks?
These were the companies that had multiple desks nominated for our list of best desks.
- IKEA
- Flexispot
- CubiCubi
- Cubiker
- Autonomous
- Uplift
- Varidesk
Does IKEA have good quality desks?
The simple answer is yes. When I asked 100+ people who work from home for their best desk, seven IKEA desks made the top 58. That’s more than any other manufacturer on the list. I personally had the Linmon IKEA as my first desk. It was simple, clean, and lasted for years.

Standing desks have many benefits. They can improve blood flow, posture, mental health, productivity, body fat, stress, and anxiety, as well as promote a healthy work-life balance. While there may be potential drawbacks to using a standing desk (such as increased energy expenditure and difficulty returning to sitting posture), these benefits far outweigh the risks.
