My first remote job, age 26My First Remote Job (Age 26)

Entry-level remote jobs didn’t exist when I started my career. That’s why I was excited to see so many people interested in this topic starting in 2021 and really picking up in 2022. Entry-level remote opportunities exist now.

When I got my first remote job I was 26, so I was about 3-4 years past entry-level. My life was still very much entry level though – I lived with three roommates and we had no space for a home office. Here’s my advice if you’re in a similar situation:

  • Work at libraries, coffee shops, coworking spots, and maybe even friends’ houses to mix it up
  • Find a schedule that works for you and be diligent – you need consistency when working remotely, especially with chaos around you
  • Share your calendar with your roommates – you need to present professionally for meetings (and that starts with lowering background noise)
