Below, you’ll find a 90-minute brainstorming meeting agenda to keep your discussion organized. The bulk of the conversation is the brainstorming itself. That section requires a framework to draw out good ideas. You’ll see brainstorming framework options in the section below the agenda template.
Brainstorming Meeting Agenda Template
Purpose: To generate new ideas outside of daily work to propel the organization’s growth.
- Attendees: Full team, executive team only, or whole staff (small companies)
- Frequency: Adhoc
- Duration: 90 minutes
Agenda:
- Meeting Overview (5 minutes)
- Brief welcome and overview of the meeting’s purpose
- Outline the main goals for the meeting
- Brainstorming Rules (5 minutes)
- Go over the ground rules for the session
- Examples: Defer judgment until later, encourage wild ideas, build on others’ ideas
- Go over the ground rules for the session
- Brainstorm (60 minutes)
- Describe the brainstorming framework*

- Break into smaller groups if necessary to cover different aspects or stay as one group depending on the size of the meeting
- Describe the brainstorming framework*
- Prioritize Ideas (10 minutes)
- Identify themes or group related ideas into one
- Vote to prioritize the ideas based on criteria set earlier (feasibility, impact, ability to execute, etc.)
- Decide on which ones to pursue and which ones to record for later consideration
- Assign Tasks (5 minutes)
- Pick owners for each idea
- Assign the first task required to move each idea forward
- Meeting Feedback (5 minutes)
- Ask: What went well during this brainstorming session? How would you improve this session next time?
Brainstorming Frameworks & Concepts
Use one of these five brainstorming frameworks to facilitate the 60-minute brainstorm item of the meeting agenda.
1. Mind Mapping

- How it works:
- Start with a central concept or problem.
- Branch out ideas in a non-linear fashion.
- Use colors, images, and keywords to expand on each idea.
- Explore sub-ideas from main branches to create a visual map.
2. SCAMPER Method
- Source: Interaction Design Foundation
- How it works:
- Substitute: Replace a component or concept.
- Combine: Merge ideas or processes.
- Adapt: Modify or alter for different uses.
- Modify: Change size, shape, attributes.
- Put to another use: Find new ways to utilize an idea.
- Eliminate: Simplify or remove parts.
- Reverse: Reverse or reorganize the process.
3. Six Thinking Hats

- How it works:
- Participants think from six different perspectives:
- White Hat: Facts and data
- Red Hat: Emotions and feelings
- Black Hat: Cautious, critical thinking
- Yellow Hat: Positive, optimistic thinking
- Green Hat: Creative, lateral thinking
- Blue Hat: Process control, managing the thinking process

4. Brainwriting (6-3-5 Method)

- How it works:
- Six participants, each writing three ideas in five minutes.
- Each participant passes their ideas to the next person.
- Build and expand on received ideas.
- Continue the cycle for five rounds.
5. Round Robin Brainstorming
- Source: Mural
- How it works:
- Participants take turns to contribute ideas one by one.
- Keep rotating until all ideas are exhausted.
- Record every idea for review.
