How We Determine The Top Software Companies To Work For

Buildremote’s Award Criteria

Three pieces of information make up our grading criteria:

1. “Software” company status: A software company is a business entity that primarily focuses on the development, distribution, and maintenance of computer programs. If a company fits this criteria, they are eligible for our list.
2. Company size: We looked up the number of employees in 2024 at each company first on the company website, then on LinkedIn (if not available on the site). Each company was put into one of these brackets:
   1. Small: 1 – 100 employees
   2. Medium: 101 – 1,000 employees
   3. Large: 1,000+ employees
3. Company benefits: We track which employee benefits each company offers of our 20 most desirable (see below)
   1. To quality as one of the best software companies to work for, you must offer 12 or more of the 20 (which puts the company in the top 1% of our database)
   2. Companies that offer the most of the 20 benefits rank the highest
