Stellantis Orders Full Return To Office for U.S. Employees
Stellantis is ending its hybrid work model and requiring all U.S.-based employees to return to the office five days per week starting March 30, 2026. Senior leaders (directors and above) will return earlier on February 16. The company says the move will enhance customer satisfaction, innovation, and mentorship, citing a need for stronger in-person collaboration. Business Insider first reported the change.
This shift is part of a global initiative titled “Back Together We Win,” which aims to unify in-office work culture across all regions. While the U.S. rollout has fixed dates, other countries may follow more slowly, depending on office capacity.
“Bringing teams together to build stronger connections is a competitive necessity,” a Stellantis spokesperson said.
Stellantis’s Return To Office Policy [Jan 2026]
- Notice Date: January 30, 2026
- Return To Office Date: March 30, 2026
- Location Policy: Office First
- Office Visit Expectations: 5 days per week in the office
- Previous Policy:
- January 2025: Required 3–5 days per week in the office beginning March 3, 2025
- January 2024: Engineers required at least 3 days per week in the office (more during vehicle launch periods)
- 2022 (policy declared permanent at the time): Remote-first model allowing eligible non-assembly workers to work from home up to 70% of the time.
Previous Hybrid Policy Rolled Back
This marks a full reversal from Stellantis’ earlier flexible model. In January 2025, the automaker instructed U.S. employees to be in the office three to five days per week, but did not enforce a strict in-office minimum.
And just two years earlier, Stellantis was viewed as one of the most remote-friendly auto manufacturers. In 2022, the company declared its remote-work policy permanent, allowing non-assembly line employees to work from home up to 70% of the time. At the time, CEO Carlos Tavares himself worked remotely from Portugal one week each month.
“Remote working is very flexible within Stellantis… There is a delegation to the management to establish the conditions of the best possible performance,” a company spokesperson said in 2024.
However, that flexibility began tightening in early 2024, when Stellantis started requiring engineers to be on-site at least three days per week. Engineering chief Ned Curic explained: “It’s impossible to engineer vehicles remotely… You have to do design sessions, engineering sessions and the buildups together”.
RTO Enforcement
Under the new plan:
-
Employees must confirm their on-site schedules with managers.
-
Workday flexibility remains, but the majority of hours must be spent in the office.
